Who Gets The Dog?!? Pet-Nup's Are A Thing Now
Not the worst idea? Would you sign a pet-nup.
If you break up...who gets the pet? Apparently custody disputes over beloved cats and dogs have become so common now that signing a 'pet-nup' has become a trend. It's exactly what it sounds like, a prenuptial agreement that lays out what will happen to the pet if the couple parts ways.
It's happening more often, and a recent survery from the U.K. found that about 25% of divorces there in the past year involved a pet custody dispute.
The survey of 2,000 pet owners and 100 lawyers revealed that the lawyers in these cases involving pets spend an average of 25 billable hours on just that one issue!! Cha Ching!
Pet-nups are on the rise in the U.S. as well! Celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Wallack confirmed he's seeing more issues surrounding pets popping up in regular prenups. (via NYPost)
