Human West Nile case in Simcoe County
The first human case of West Nile Virus this year has shown up in Simcoe County.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirms one person has contracted the disease, but they can't say for certain if it was contracted here, as the affected person had been travelling out of province.
But health officials are still urging residents to be proactive against mosquito bites, saying late summer and early fall are actually when the risk of acquiring West Nile increases.
The county health unit did get some positive West Nile tests from mosquito pools earlier this season.
