Andrew's top 10 songs
Hello everyone, I’m Andrew, a high school Co-op student at The Dock, and I have been asked to write what I think the top 10 songs played on our station are. Hopefully we have some in common.
Here are the results; coming in at 10th on my list I have Jump by Van Halen, this is on my list because I really enjoy the combination of electric sounding piano and the guitar solo is such a clean sounding point in the song. It reminds me of when my brother used to be inn a band because he used to practice this song all the time on his guitar and he would try to teach me how to play.
Coming in at number 9 is Summer of ’69 by Bryan Adams, personally I put this song into my list because whenever I hear this song I can’t help but question whether or not the lyrics behind this song had actually happened to him. This would always get me thinking and then force this song to get stuck in my head which is why I love it so much.
Next at number 8 is Born to Run by the Boss Bruce Springsteen. Personally I enjoy listening to it because I believe that no matter what mood you are in this is always a good song. This song is just such a feel good song even if I listen to it in a bad mood it will manage to put me into a good mood no matter what.
At number 7 I have put Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer. I just think that the lyrics in this song flow so well together and fit so well with the instrumental that it has to be one of the most well rounded songs on my list. On top of that it always seems to remind me of when I was little and playing hockey as we used to always skate out onto the ice with this song playing.
Coming in at 6th is The Eagles with Hotel California. This song always finds a way to make me think of when my family used to be driving down to my uncle’s cottage as we used to always be driving down while listening to the dock and this song would always come on and we would listen to this down at the beach all of the time.
Kicking off our top 5 Piano Man by Billy Joel, the piano in this song is such a beautiful sound I felt obligated to put this into my top 5. It is just such a soothing song to listen to it never seems to get old especially because when I listen to it, it takes me back to when I was a little kid in my grandpa’s truck in the backseat as he was very poorly trying to sing this song but I still loved it.
Next at number 4 is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The originality in this song is absolutely unmatched and unparalleled by any other song even above this on my list. The changes in pace and rhythm and vocals is remarkable in this song. Every time I listen to it, it still seems to amaze me as to how they managed to get so many styles of song into one song.
We’ve made it to the top 3 songs that are played by The Dock, this was the toughest decision I have made in a long time organizing these songs into an order because they could all be interchangeable in any way depending even on what kind of mood you are in they are all just so great. But there has to be a big loser and coming in at number 3 on my list is Imagine by John Lennon. This song easily could have been second or even first on my list but it will settle for third. What I love about this song is the combination of soothing yet energetic that is provides. It is just a very feel good song and I just really enjoy listening to it.
Coming in with the silver medal, none other than, The Beatles. They couldn’t have gone through a top ten songs list without making an appearance right? Well they’ve done it again because their song Hey Jude is such a soft soothing song, it’s easy to listen to you don’t even need to like the genre to realize how amazing this song is you just have to be a music fan. This song never fails to remind me of my mom because whenever I would be going through a hard time as a child she would play this song and sit with me until I felt better.
And finally, topping off my list of songs is Elton and his song Tiny Dancer. I have this at number 1 on my list because not only is this a very good song but it also has a personal connection to me. Whenever I hear this song it always reminds me of my recently passed away grandma as she used to play this song when I had to go to bed whenever she would put me to bed. This is easily one of my fondest memories as a child and hearing this song always brings me back to those days.
As you can tell most of these songs I chose because they had given me a nostalgic feel. Whenever I listen to them they reminded me of better times, and that is what The Dock is all about, playing music that all people can enjoy regardless of their reasons behind it. Hopefully reading my list helped inspire you to think of what some of your favorite songs that we play are.
Thank you for taking the time to read my list and rock on!
