Dunlop Street in Barrie to get facelift
Downtown Barrie will look a lot different by the summer of next year, after a major upgrade project was announced for Dunlop Street.
The main feature of the upgrade, is much larger sidewalks on the street, from Toronto Street to Mulcaster.
That will allow for more permanent summer patios for local businesses, more room for things like buskers and performers, and more space for pedestrians.
The wider sidewalks will be used for parking in the winter time.
The million dollar project gets underway this fall. The Downtown Barrie Business Association is paying $300,000 of that. All businesses will remain open during construction.
The project still awaits a final vote of approval which is expected to be passed by council next week.
