Annual Golf Tourny To T-off In Gord Brown's Name
The area's late Member of Parliament is set to be remembered with a new, annual golf tournament.
The first-annual Gord Brown Memorial Golf Tournament being hosted by the United Way will happen on August 15 at Smuggler's Glen Golf Course.
Money raised will go towards United Way of Leeds & Grenville and for the Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink being built in Gananoque.
The group will have limited spaces for golfers at about 144 spots in all to fill, and Executive Director Trish Beote says that it's already proving to be popular with those close to Gord.
"We're expecting to have some MP's, some MPP's," she explains. "Not only to celebrate Gord but to raise money for the outdoor rink."
Brown passed away one year ago, and organizers are hoping it becomes an annual thing, to celebrate his legacy.
"It was Gord’s vision to make this community much more prosperous and friendly and I think it will help go towards that," explained Beote.
