AUDIO: Phase 2 Of BGH Expansion Breaking Ground
The Brockville General Hospital expansion is officially underway.
The new addition will place all of the hospitals services under one roof, adding a new 5-story tower with 22 new beds for patients.
Speaking from the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Ontario Infrastructure Minister Bob Chiarelli says investments like these are how Ontario will move forward in the future.
"We're investing over the next ten years 30,000 new long-term care beds, because people are living longer," he says of the Ontario Liberal government. "They have more complex health needs so they need more money invested, in order to maintain them and try to have more quality of life for them."
The first phase of the redevelopment is the creation of a new parking lot, which began in March.
Services like palliative and rehabilitation programs will be moved to the new tower by 2020.
@SteveClarkPC speaking says this has been a long-time coming and a long process. Thanking @BrockvilleGener staff for dedication and patience.#bxr pic.twitter.com/o2fxkCcvPM
