Brockville Committee Open to New Provincial Income Project

Brockville's finance, administration and operations committee backed a motion that will see Brockville express interest in becoming one of the first cities to try out Ontario's Guaranteed Annual Income Pilot Project

The provincial government is providing $25 million a year over three years for the pilot project, which would involve studying people who receive the higher benefit versus those who will not.

It would replace both Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program.

The project would be voluntary and would only apply to people who have lived in the community for at least a year

Smith Falls is also lobbying the province to be a test site for the program.

The motion will go before Brockville City Council next Tuesday (February 28th) for a final vote to determine whether or not Brockville will apply to be part of the project.
