Brockville Councillor Candidate Profile: Matthew Blair

Matthew Blair, at 25, is one of the younger candidates running for city council.

Blair says his age is a benefit because he has the "passion and vision" to be at the council table. Although, he's not against spending on projects, he thinks it's been misplaced in many ways.

Blair says he's frustrated with how funding for the Aquatarium has been handled and is against continuing to fund the facility beyond the next two year deal.

"I'm not against the Aquatarium. We need to find a way to help it be self-sustaining so the city stops investing all that money into it."

He feels that the city can do more to entice young people to stay here and eventually start a family. Blair supports the possible twin-pad arena, and the revitalization of downtown. He feels that the city can do more to entice young people to stay here and eventually start a family.

"We need to engage with the public, it can't just be eight people sitting around a table making decisions," he says.

"Ten years ago I was one of those kids in high school who kind of resentful of the city because they weren't providing opportunities. I went away to college and came back. If we focus on children and youth we can start building up this city for the next ten years."
