Brockville Runner Lacing Up For Boston Marathon

Brockville is being represented in the Boston Marathon this morning.

Ian Loughrey has qualified and will hit the 42 kilometre course.

The 60-year-old says the big thing is simply build up and get the body used to running for over three hours.

"This past weekend I've eaten a lot of pasta stuff and breads, and I just want to be really hydrated as well, so drink lots and lots and lots of water." says Loughrey. "It's hard to lay off the beer but that will come after the run is over and have some celebrations after that."

Loughrey says he's hoping to beat his personal best running time. He says the best thing to do is build up from small to long runs over time.

"I'm kind of excited at the age of 60 to still be able to run. So some people say  go down and enjoy the experience, my personal best was [3 hours and 25 minutes] in Toronto, so if I can beat the Toronto time that's great."

To qualify in the 60 to 64 catagory, Loughry had to run a time of 3 hours and 55 minutes.

He says the ultimate goal is to just enjoy it and qualify again next year.
