Brown's Nephew Set Sights On MP Role
The late Gord Brown’s nephew says he's seeking the federal Conservative nomination left following the member of parliament’s passing.
Brown’s seat has been left vacant after he died of a heart attack in his office on Parliament Hill in early May. A by-election is expected to be called for the riding of Leeds-Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes in the coming months.
Speaking from Brown's former office in a post online, Colin Brown says he has been inspired by the work of his uncle.
"I want to build on the legacy left by my uncle, who served this community for over 20 years," said Brown. "I will be a strong voice for our community and work hard to earn your support."
Brown says he has "extensive political and business experience" behind his bid.
"Gord's mentorship was invaluable to me, as has been the 13 years I spent working here in our family business," says Brown. "Most recently I was working the provincial campaign helping to elect the new premier of Ontario."
Brown says he's proud to have the support of the incoming Ontario premier Doug Ford.
"Colin has always demonstrated very strong leadership skills and an excellent work ethic," says Ford. "I am confident that he will be an effective voice for this community."
Brown says his priorities for the community are "keeping taxes low and fostering a business friendly environment; investing in vital infrastructure for the region."
MPP Steve Clark says politics is a part of the Brown family tradition, and Colin's work ethic makes him an "impressive candidate." Clark will not be endorsing any candidate who is running for the role.
The original ariticle had a comment stating Colin Brown had the official backing of MPP Steve Clark. The original statement had come from Colin Brown's press release and that he had the support of incoming Premier Doug Ford.
Clark's camp has since clairified that he has not endorsed Colin Brown specifically, and will not be endorsing any specific candidate.
This cat seems real confused about what's going on. Why is there so much snow!
We associate echos with mountains and valleys but what about... a lake?
He just wanted to know what his animals were up to during the day... he was probably happily surprised!
