Cigarette Butts Cause In Two Grass Fires: OPP

Leeds OPP are warning cigarettes thrown by passing cars have started two fires this week.

On Wednesday around 3:30pm OPP say they, along with firefighters from Front of Yonge, Athens and Elizabethtown responded to two active grass fires.

The first was on Temperance Lake Rd and the second on Graham Lake Rd, in the Athens and Elizabethtown-Kitley areas.

Both fires caused significant damage and almost required an evacuation of homes in the area, before crews could get it under control.

Investigators say the cause is from drivers throwing their burning cigarettes out the window.

Leeds County OPP are asking drivers to be mindful and properly discard their cigarettes.
