Leeds and Grenville Mayors Team Up to Prevent More Serious Collisions on 401

The Mayors of Leeds and Grenville have teamed up in an effort to help prevent another major accident on the 401.

At last night's (April 5th) joint services committee meeting, the mayors supported two motions that would either ban transports carrying hazardous waste during all storms or slow down all highway traffic during bad weather.

The concerns stem from last month's major accident along the 401 which involved at least 30 vehicles, one fatality and a chemical spill that closed down a section of the highway for almost a day and a half.

The mayors plan to raise this issue with the regional wardens’ caucus, the mayors’ committee, provincial municipal associations and directly to the ministry of transportation.
