Local Barn Fire Causes Huge Amount of Damage

A barn fire east of Brockville caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage earlier this week.

The fire caused the shutdown of County Rd 26 at Kelly and North Augusta roads, as firefighters from Elizabethtown-Kitley began to battle the blaze around 5:30 Wednesday morning (March 22nd).

It took 28 firefighters, five tankers, two pumpers, a rescue unit and three support vehicles, but the fire was eventually brought under control in the early afternoon.

More than $400,000 worth of damage was caused in the fire, a horse and two donkeys were also killed.

Firefighters believe the blaze was likely caused by an electric heater used to keep the barn warm.
