Local Downtown Store Owner Considering Stepping Up Security After Windows Smashed In
A local downtown business owner is expressing disappointment in what she sees as the growing problem of mischief on King St.
Suzanne Guild has owned Isis Dress For Special Occasion for 12 years.
On Monday night, the store had its window smashed in with a brick. Brockville Police confirm they received a call around 10:30pm, about a male suspect smashing the store window and fleeing.
Nothing was taken from inside, but Guild says her's is the second store downtown that's had a window smashed in the past two weeks. She's disappointed.
"I think the worst part about it is that, we have such a beautiful city. There are people who work so hard to keep it safe and beautiful," she says. "And then there are those who are incredibly destructive in the downtown."
Boboli restaurant, also on King Street, had its front window damaged on a previous night. Police say in that incident the suspect was found and is planning to pay for the damages.
While the vandal never got inside, Guild says it's made her think about installing a camera outside her store. That’s something she always thought was intrusive on the public, but she says she’s had a change of heart.
The damaged window is also now on her.
"I'm a small business owner," she explains. "I'm going to be the one who is eventually going to have to pay for that."
