Mystery Benefactor Offers to Pay Land Purchase Cost for New Arena
Someone wants a new twin pad arena in Brockville's Downtown area so bad, they are willing to fit a major portion of the bill.
An anonymous donor has come forward and has offered to pay for the land purchase cost if the city moves ahead with the plan to build the new arena on the old Phillips Cables property.
In January, city council designated the Memorial Centre as the preferred site of an eventual twin-pad facility.
However many would like to see the arena closer to the downtown area, including Meg Plooy, executive director of the Downtown Brockville Business Improvement Area.
She is expected to appear before city council tomorrow (August 22nd), to present a series of endorsements for the proposed twin-pad project to be built on the former Phillips Cables property located on King Street W.
