UPDATE: School Funding Protests Postponed In Brockville
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation is postponing their Brockville protest against cuts to education.
Union organizers were set to hold the public protest Thursday at 3:30 p.m., but a day of forecasted freezing drizzle by Environment Canada throughout Eastern Ontario has forced it to be rescheduled.
It is part of a larger province-wide protest taking place in 35 districts. Federation officials say they are unhappy with the $25-million dollars the province has cut from the education budget.
"Cuts will lead to fewer teachers and support staff in our schools, reducing services and programs for students," said representatives in a statement.
"We need to enhance and improve funding for public education to ensure all students, from kindergarten through to post-secondary, get the support and services they need to be successful."
The protest will now take place outside Brockville City Hall at 3:30 p.m. on February 12.
