Freezing rain wreaking havoc on power lines in Ottawa's west end

The brutal freezing rain is wreaking havoc on the west end of the city.

Ottawa Fire says they got multiple calls starting after midnight on Monday from residents in the Wellington and Island Park reporting power lines "arching and sparking".

One resident reported downed hydro lines started a fire in the rear area of her house in the 300-block of Island Park Dr.

Once crews got to the scene, they say they were approached by multiple addresses reporting hazes in their homes and power surges to appliances.

Crews say they remain on the scene, working to address the concerns of all residences, along with Ottawa Hydro.

No injuries or significant fire losses have been reported.

More to come.
