"Airsoft" rifle caused lock down near the Pen Centre earlier today
For a second time this week an "airsoft" rifle caused a bit of panic as a concerned citizen contacted police regarding a male possibly armed with a gun.
Niagara Regional Police were called to the area of Glendale Avenue and Highway 406 near the Pen Centre in St. Catharines around 1 o'clock this afternoon after getting a call about a gun from a concerned citizen.
NRP attended the scene and commenced an investigation which led to the location of the involved party.
It was determined that the firearm observed was an "airsoft" gun and not a real firearm.
During the investigation a number of area streets and premises were briefly locked down to ensure public safety while the matter was brought to conclusion.
Final investigation found no concerns for the public's ongoing safety and no criminal offence was determined to have occurred.
Earlier this week, three Niagara Falls teens were arrested during a weapons incident that involved an "airsoft" rifle.
