Brock University gaining in popularity with local students
Brock University is bucking the provincial trend, posting an increase in the number of first year students who will attend the school this fall.
James Mandigo, the school's Vice Provost for Enrolment Management says Ontario universities are seeing a slight decline in the number of domestic students enrolled for the fall semester, but at Brock, they are seeing a four percent increase.
Mandigo credits the increase, in part, to its efforts to encourage local students to attend.
He notes Niagara has one of the lowest participation rates for post secondary in Canada, and Brock has made a concentrated effort to be more welcoming, opening and accessible to local students.
He says the effort is paying off, they have seen a 13 percent increase in local students who have confirmed they will attend Brock in September.
