Church on the Beach gets permit for summer services in Fort Erie
Fort Erie town councillors have reversed course and will allow the popular Church on the Beach to return this summer.
Organizors of the church service, held at Bay Beach on Sunday's during the summer months, were denied a permit by town staff who felt upcoming renovations to the public beach would pose a safety issue to the congregation.
But after receiving hundreds of complaints town council has voted to allow the lakeside service to continue this summer.
The popular public beach will undergo $2 million dollars worth of upgrades this year including new waterfront sidewalks, improved parking, new washrooms and gated admission that will see out of town visitors charged a fee to take in the sun and water.
