City councillor wants a plastic straw ban in St. Catharines
Bruce Williamson will bring the issue to the table at the next council meeting on Monday.
His motion calls for a ban on the sale and use of plastic straws in City facilities, parks, city events and public spaces.
It also requires that non-plastic, compostable alternatives be used when necessary.
Williamson says his proposed motion would only apply to City facilities.
He hopes others in the private sector and the public will rethink their use of plastic straws.
Williamson says his motion is a "first step."
