Close to 1,500 collisions in the GTA over the weekend
Despite numerous warnings to stay off the roads this weekend, some drivers still took their chances.
OPP Sgt Kerry Schmidt was out all weekend keeping an eye on the highways. By yesterday afternoon, he reported a staggering number of crashes:
"We're getting close to 1,500 collisions only in the GTA for this storm system that came through."
Schmidt wasn't aware of any serious injuries and expects collision reporting centres to be extremely busy today as drivers get around to reporting minor incidents from the weekend.
This morning's drive could also be quite tricky - the rain is causing some flooding and ponding out there on the highways, so plan some extra time to get where you're going.
