Dhillon Outstanding in OT Defeat
Stephen Dhillon stopped 47 of 50 shots Saturday night in Hamilton but it wasn't enough as the IceDogs lost 3-2 in a second straight overtime game. Heading home for game three on Monday, Niagara trails the best of seven Eastern Conference semi-final 2-0.
Power-plays were the order of the night as Hamilton enjoyed two 5 on 3 advantages among their 7 opportunities while the IceDogs had 9 chances with a 5 on 3 of their own. Hamilton took the lead 1:15 in with a 'Dogs player in the box. Sam Miletic notched his 4th of the post-season as the Bulldogs were short two. Kirill Maksimov and Akil Thomas assisted on the snap shot goal at 7:25. Dhillon was the reason it was even after one, making 15 first period saves.
The second was more of the same as the home team took the lead with under 6 left on a on 3 goal of their own. Once again it was Dhillon being spectacular several times, stopping 13.
In the third, Matt Philip deflected home a Drew Hunter point shot at 5:16. Johnny Corneil also picked up a point on Philip's 3rd of the playoffs. Dhillon saved his best for last, making an incredible right pad save in close, after losing his goal stick. Perfect on all 11 Hamilton attempts, the game once again, headed to overtime.
The game winner came on a delayed penalty call, after the IceDogs netminder made four unbelievable saves from point blank range. The IceDogs were outshot in this one, 50-23.
