Distraction thefts on the rise in Niagara

Distraction thefts are on the rise in Niagara.

The Niagara Regional Police say people are being targeted all across the region; during the theft a suspect will approach the victim, putting cheap, imitation jewelry on them while removing the target's expensive pieces.

The suspects then take off before the victim notices anything has happened.

Incidents have been reported in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, and Welland.

The suspects are described as in their 50s with larger builds. They wore dark clothes and drove a small black compact car.
