Dogs Out Battle Battalion
Matt Philip scored a pair of goals, including the game winner, as the IceDogs picked up a big two points in North Bay winning 4-3 on Sunday. The win solidifies the Dogs second place spot trailing only Barrie in the OHL's Central Division.
Johnny Corneil's 4th opened the scoring at 2:44 with Akil Thomas' deft hand to eye coordination holding the blue line to draw the assist. The power-play struck at 6:42 with Ben Jones notching his 10th, with 8 of those coming on the man advantage, Kirill Maksimov and Liam Ham chipped in with the helpers. Philip deflected home a Zach Shankar shot in his return to North Bay at 12:20 to extend the lead to three before a late Battalion power-play goal closed out the first period scoring.
In the middle frame, North Bay would make it a one goal affair before Maksimov fed Philip for a one-timer at 12:27 to make it 4-2. Stephen Dhillon registered 12 saves in each of the first two periods including two breakaway stops off North Bay veteran Brett McKenzie.
The third was a team defence effort as Billy Burke's IceDogs surrendered only 7 shots. A final Battalion goal with just over 5 minutes left ended the scoring. For the game, the shot clock read, North Bay 33-IceDogs 30.
