Doug Ford booed during appearance at tech conference

Ontario's Premier didn't get quite the greeting he may have hoped for at a major technology conference.

Collision 2019, billed as 'North America's fastest growing tech conference,' is being held in Toronto for the first time ever.

Conference co-host Sunil Sharma invited Doug Ford to welcome the attendees, but as the Premier walked on stage he was met with a chorus of boos.

Ford's appearance took place just hours after announcing $24 million in cuts to artificial intelligence research in the province as the PC government tries to tackle the deficit.

The four day conference is scheduled to take place in Ontario for the next three years.

Guests this year include Shawn Layden of Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation), actor and creator of media platform HitRECord Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and singer and producer Timbaland.
