DSBN considering merging two Wainfleet schools

DSBN trustees have given the go ahead for an accommodation review in Wainfleet.

On the table a proposal to merge three elementary schools.

In a media release, the board says a proposed new school for Wainfleet would bring together students from William E. Brown and Winger as well as St. Elizabeth Catholic Elementary.

Board officials say in this scenario, the DSBN and Niagara Catholic District School Board would continue to operate separate schools under the same roof.

Although St. Elizabeth is not included in the accommodation review, the Catholic board will consult with their community and be a partner on decisions surrounding the potential new school.

Both Winger and William E. Brown are older buildings, Winger was built in 1950, and William E. Brown was constructed in 1914.

The proposed school would serve over 400 DSBN students.
