DSBN not supporting 13 Reasons Why

If you haven't already, you will start hearing more about a Netflix series called "13 Reasons Why".

It's a TV show about the suicide of a young teen girl following bullying and her rape.

Some schools are encouraging it and even playing it in the classroom, other school boards are strongly against it.

The District School Board of Niagara releasing a comment to CKTB about 13 Reasons Why.

It says the DSBN does not support using the show in the classroom. As a fictional drama, the show includes many unrealistic elements.

But the statement points out that the DSBN wants students to be able to discuss the topic or any other aspect of their health and well-being.

The DSBN says it has many resources available to students who have questions or concerns. When someone is dealing with difficult issues, asking for, and receiving, help is vital.

That being said, we want students to be able to discuss this topic or any other aspect of their health and well-being. The DSBN has many resources available to students who have questions or concerns. When someone is dealing with difficult issues, asking for, and receiving, help is vital.

Should staff become aware of any student needing additional support, due to this series or any other reason, they will work to connect them with the appropriate supports to enhance their health and well-being."
