Economy posts biggest month to month surge in manufacturing jobs since 2002

A mixed jobs report for the country this morning.

Even though the economy added another 19,400 net jobs last month, with the vast majority full time, the unemployment rate still crept up from 6.6 percent in February to 6.7 percent last month.

Stats Can says the bulk of jobs were in the self employment category.

The country lost 2,400 positions in the services sector last month, but added 21,800 factory jobs thanks to the biggest month-to-month surge in manufacturing work since 2002.

Closer to home, the jobless rate in Niagara remained unchanged at 6.4 percent.

Ontario's inched up slightly from 6.2 percent in February to 6.4 percent last month.
