Efforts underway to recover body of Niagara Falls man killed in Syria
A leader of Toronto's Kurdish community says talks are underway to recover the body of a Niagara Falls man who died fighting Islamic State militants in Syria.
The family of Nazzareno Tassone was notified earlier this week about his death when a letter was delivered to their home by police and members of the Toronto Kurdish Community Centre.
In that letter, the family also learned that the 24-year-old's body had been seized by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIS.
The community centre's president says negotiations are happening between a U-S-backed group known as Y-P-G and ISIS for the body to be retrieved and returned to Canada.
