Electrofishing at Port Dalhousie Piers
Residents may notice teams from Fisheries and Oceans Canada electrofishing at the Port Dalhousie Piers this week.
The practice is a scientific survey method in which officials from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences pass electrical currents through electrodes partially submerged in the water, temporarily stunning fish.
Teams are looking for the American Eel, an endangered species of fish.
No permanent damage is done to the fish during the survey.
