EMS facing long offloading delays

Some frightening statistics highlighting the chronic delays Niagara paramedics face when they take patients to the hospital.

New stats show EMS spent over 15,000 hours waiting outside emergency room departments in 2017.

The delays comes even as moves were put in place in 2010 to reduce offloading issues.

A report on the problem will go before the region's public health committee meeting next month.

EMS officials blame a lack of hospital beds and an insufficient number of alternative care beds in the region.
