Federal Liberals earmark old Tory infrastructure money for GO Transit project

A shot in the arm today for transit in Ontario.

The federal government is earmarking $1.8 billion in idle infastructure cash to improve express rail projects around the GTHA and millions more for smaller projects in the province.

Combined with provincial money,  both levels of government are pitching in $4.4 billion to Go Transit's regional express project.   That includes the extension of regular train service to Niagara and Bowmanville.

The premier calls the undertaking the "largest commuter rail transformation in the country."

It's designed to cut travel times and help manage congestion in the Hamilton-Toronto area and surrounding communities
