Federal mediators appointed to help with postal work negotiations

Federal mediators have been appointed in hopes of getting Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to see eye-to-eye.

Members of both the Urban Postal Operations unit and the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers unit voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action in votes held across the country between August 7th and September 9th.

Urban workers voted 93.8% in favour, while 95.9% of rural workers supported the bargaining committee moving to take strike action if necessary.

If the two sides can't reach an agreement by September 26th, the union will be in a legal strike position.

Representatives for the union say key issues include home/work life balance, wages of Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers, and the massive increases in parcel volumes.
