Funding for Canada Games still uncertain

While the City of St. Catharines is coming through with infrastructure funding for the Canada Games, there is still some uncertainty about money from the province.

On Monday, St. Catharines council pledged $10 million dollars toward the infrastructure cost of the Games, with contributions also expected from the Region and the federal and province governments.

But Chair of the Canada Games Doug Hamilton says they may have to ask the region to pick up the slack if the province doesn't come to the table.

Hamilton calls it a "timing challenge."

He says the federal and provincial governments have both indicated they're supportive of the program, but not the timing for implementation of funding.

Representatives for the Games will be going to Regional Council tomorrow.

The total infrastructure cost is estimated 98 million dollars.

The Canada Games come to Niagara in August of 2021.
