Gas leak leads to arrest
A 47 year old St. Catharines man is charged with mischief endangering life after allegedly tampering with a furnace in a home where he is a tenant.
Fire crews were called to a home on Haynes Avenue Saturday around the dinner hour, after residents smelled gas.
Firefighters determined the smell was coming from the basement and on closer inspection found that a section of the furnace had been intentionally compromised.
Police were called in and yesterday executed a warrant allowing them to search the bedrooms of three tenants.
One tenant identified as Joey Larue was taken into custody.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the 1 District detective office at 905-688-4111 ext. 4286.
