Girl Guides Canada Cancelling All US Trips
The Girl Guides of Canada have cancelled all trips to the US, until further notice.
It's in response to what's being called 'uncertainty at the border'.
"We were looking at what would possibly happen if there was a group trying to cross the border and one girl was not allowed to go. How would that look to the parents and how would that make that one girl feel?" says Sarah Kiriliuk, a spokesperson for Girl Guides of Canada.
She says they haven't received any threats and she admits they are just taking a precaution.
Any trips that have already been planned will be rescheduled to locations within Canada, or to other international destinations.
Kiriliuk says this is not a political statement, and they'll be watching what happens in the US, before making a decision to lift the ban.
The group says in a statement that the organization values providing safe, inclusive and accepting experiences to its members, including when travelling.
Although the US is a ''frequent destination'' for its members, the organization says all trips including travel that requires connecting through an American airport will not be approved.
The statement says provincial advisers on international travel will contact a small number of groups that were already approved for trips to the United States about how they should proceed.
A nationally sponsored trip to a camp in California that was scheduled for this summer is also being relocated.
