Hamilton police say a middle school principal has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a student.

Police say they began an investigation into the principal of Ryerson Middle School in January.

They say an alleged incident involving a female student took place during the 2017 school year.

The 54-year-old principal was arrested on Tuesday and was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

He's set to next appear in court on Sept. 3.

Police say they're concerned there could be other alleged victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
