Hamilton police confront 12 year old with guns drawn

A Hamilton father is trying to understand why police confronted his 12 year old son with guns and tasers drawn.

On Tuesda,y police responded to a report of a  tall teen with a gun and a knife, in Shamrock Park.

The tall teen is in fact a 6 foot tall, 12 year old boy, who had a toy gun and wooden sword with him to shoot a video for a school project.

The boy, who is not being named, was told by officers to drop what he was holding, which his father said he did right away.

But dad notes the situation could have ended tragically.

In a release, police say given the information and the possibility of a serious threat, officers approached the park cautiously while removing their firearm and taser.

Police have since reached out to the boy and his parents.
