Hamilton's mayor vowing vandals will be brought to justice
Hamilton's mayor toured a damaged area of the city yesterday after a massive mob attack.
A group of about 30 people, wearing black with their faces covered, decended onto trendy Locke Street Saturday night, setting off fireworks, damaging vehicles and throwing rocks at store windows.
The vandals were carrying a banner that read “we are the ungovernables.”
Mayor Fred Eisenberger says " it's not the kind of thing you see in Canada, and it's a scary thought there are people who claim to be ungovernable."
Eisenberger says "not only are you advocating for anarchy, now you are violently acting out, that's a crime and we will do everything we can to bring these people to justice."
The vandals who discarded their clothing as they fled police caused about $100,000 damage to local businesses.
Police made no arrests and are asking witnesses, particularly those who may have cellphone footage of the rampage to give them a call.
