Health professionals send open letter to government about consolidation

More than 300 public health professionals have penned an open letter to the Ontario government, expressing 'grave concern' with plans to consolidate health units in the province.

The letter states combining 35 public health units into 10 regional agencies by 2021 is not the 'appropriate method' to reduce costs while maintaining quality of service.

Officials from the Canadian Public Health Association call on the PCs to reverse their decision, saying people with health conditions will start going to emergency rooms and doctors offices for things that could have been mitigated by public health programming.
