Home builder considers purchasing former GM site in St. Catharines
There is a potential buyer for the former GM site in St. Catharines.
Stoney Creek based home builder Losani Homes is looking at buying the property on Ontario Street after a Superior Court judge cleared the way for a sale.
Mayor Walter Sendzik spoke to CKTB's Matt Holmes about what the way ahead looks like, especially considering the former owner, Bayshore Group, owes the city more than one and a half million dollars.
"From our immediate vantage point there's a pathway forward, it looks like we can now go through this and get the taxes that are owed and hopefully have a great company that will sit down with the community and we'll be able to work on a new vision for an important part of the city.
Sendzik also praised Losani's track record.
"They have done wonderful work in the Greater Hamilton Area. They are a generational company, meaning, much like the Rankins they are building a business that is based on the next generation and the generation after."
He adds if Losani is successful in purchasing the land, the city is looking forward to sitting down with them as soon as possible.
