Home Cookin Not Enough for IceDogs
The IceDogs returned home after a five game, two week road trip, falling 4-1 to Kitchener. A stifling Rangers team defence made it impossible for the Dogs to get any traction in this game.
Johnny Corneil would give the home fans something to cheer about with a power-play goal in the first period. His 26th was the conversion of a Ben Jones rebound, with Akil Thomas picking up the second assist. The Rangers would reply with a man advantage goal of their own two minutes later. The IceDogs gave up the first five shots of the game, only to pick up 10 of the next 14. For the period, Kitchener held a 14-11 edge.
Kitchener counted the only two goals of the middle period and added a final goal in the third. For the game, Stephen Dhillon stopped 40 of 44 Rangers attempts.
A North Bay 4-3 overtime loss on home ice to Barrie means the IceDogs still hold a one point edge on the Battalion for the 8th and final playoff spot.
Next up for the Dogs, a trip to Erie to face the CHL's number one team the Otters. 610 CKTB will have the call beginning with the pre-game at 6:30.
