IceDogs Double Petes 4-2
The IceDogs jumped back into fourth in the OHL East with a 4-2 home ice win over Peterborough. Coming into the game, Niagara was guaranteed an 11th straight trip to the OHL playoffs, the only Eastern team that make that boast.
The only goal of the first took some time to be counted. Justin MacPherson fed the puck to D-mate Willie Lochead whose left point shot went off Petes goaltender Dylan Wells before banking back into the net off Bradey Johnson. The initial "no goal" call was overturned on replay to become Johnson's 10th of the year at 8:13. Billy Burke's team came out flying with a 17-5 first period shots edge.
More of the same in period two as Oliver Castleman converted a rebound for his 9th of the season. Dan Singer and Andrew Bruder notched assists at 2:51. The pass and goal of the game came at 17:03 as Singer sprung Sam Miletic out of the 'Dogs zone, speeding down the right hand side he made a perfect backhand saucer pass to Ben Jones who buried his 22nd. Once again the shots favoured the home team 12-10. The period, as it turned out, ended on a sour note as Willie Lochead was assessed a major and game misconduct for cross-checking at the twenty minute mark.
The Petes hit the scoreboard in the first minute of the third and added as second at even strength with 5:32 left to make it a one-goal game. With the Petes net empty and six attackers on the ice, Miletic would end the drama with his 33rd from Akil Thomas and Liam Ham. Stephen Dhillon made 25 saves for the win, while St Catharines native Wells stopped 35 in what might be his last OHL game in the Garden City.
