IceDogs Eliminate Oshawa in 5
The IceDogs rode the strength of 3 power-play goals to a 5-2 win Saturday night over Oshawa at the Meridian Centre. Niagara wins best of seven Eastern Conference quarter-final the series over the Generals in five games.
A tight checking scoreless opening period featured three Oshawa power-plays and a total of 19 shots with 10 of those coming off Oshawa sticks.
Willie Lochead opened the scoring with his first of the post-season at 4:12 with help from Johnny Corneil and Ben Jones. The power-play then went to work at 8:37 as Liam Ham notched his second on a point shot set up Akil Thomas and Sam Miletic. The Generals got a goal closer before Oliver Castleman's first of the series, on the power-play, restored the two goal advantage. Corneil and Matt Philip managed assists at 16:57. Once again, Oshawa held a 10-9 shots lead.
Oshawa threw everything they had at Stephen Dhillon and again made it a one goal game just after the 5 minute mark. The IceDogs reply was Thomas deflecting home his 4th at 9:37 with assists going to Lochead and Drew Hunter. Kirill Maksimov netted his first at 11:21, again on the man advantage, from Ham and Jones.
Dhillon stopped 31 shots for the win, the 'Dogs reply was 32.
