It's a snow day in Niagara - schools are closed

It's a snow day in Niagara.

Schools in Niagara are closed today for both school boards.

Environment Canada says the major winter storm with heavy wet snow and blowing snow affecting Niagara will end this morning.

Another 2 cm of snow is expected this morning, bringing snow totals for this event to 15 to 30 cm.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
