It's time to think fire safety

To mark Fire Prevention Week, St. Catharines top fire official is asking residents to be prepared.

The theme of this year's week is Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere.

Acting Fire Chief Jeff McCormick says prevention is key.

The Chief says residents should look around their homes for any potential fire hazards.

He also reminds all of us of the importance of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Families are invited to discuss home escape plans, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and fire safety with firefighters during Pumpkinville at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm on Saturday, Oct. 13. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Firefighters will also be giving away loot bags to the youngsters they meet.
