Kirill Maksimov scored the winner 11:27 into overtime in game three as the IceDogs won 4-3 over Hamilton Monday night, with a chance to tie the series Wednesday. Stephen Dhillon stopped 47 shots, while Ben Jones scored one and added two assists in the victory.
A Ben Jones 4th of the playoffs came at 6:20 in 4 on 4 hockey on a deflection of a Sam Miletic shot with Elijah Roberts chipping in an assist. One second later, the 'Dogs began a power-play and capitalized under a minute later as Akil Thomas converted a Miletic rebound for his 5th in the second season with Dan Singer also helping out. Niagara held a 13-12 shots advantage after one.
A power-play figured in all the second period scoring as the IceDogs gave up a short-handed goal and responded immediately, 61 seconds to be exact, as Elijah Roberts snapped home a point shot with Jones and Thomas credited with assists. Dhillon stopped 13 in the middle stanza with offence replying 9 times.
Billy Burke's team seemed destined for the first regulation win until giving up a scramble goal with 3:26 left and then on a power-play with the net empty in the final minute another lucky bounce would find it's way to the back of the net to even the score at three. The IceDogs were outshot 13-5 in the third and 39-28 over 60 minutes.
In overtime Dhillon made a great stop 20 seconds in, one of his 11 saves in overtime. The IceDogs used shot number 5 to get the job done as Kirill Maksimov redirected a right point pass for Ben Jones to send the sellout crowd into a frenzy. Johnathan Schaefer, making his return to the line-up after an injury that kept him out for 6 games picked up the other assist.
