Lincoln wants regional plan to help farmers get the water they need during dry summer months
The Town of Lincoln is worried Niagara will be hit with another dry summer, leaving farmers and their crops at the mercy of mother nature.
Mayor Sandra Easton has put forward a motion calling on the region to put together an irrigation strategy for farmers.
Easton says in the past, work has been done on an irrigation plan however funding wasn't available to put the plan in place.
Easton says other municipalities, like Niagara-on-the-Lake has a system in place to make sure farmers in need of water are able to get it.
She says traditional farming is not just putting a few seeds in the ground anymore, she says farmers need to manufacture and market on their properties and innovation is needed to help support the agriculture industry.
