The City of St. Catharines says it has reached an agreement with the Niagara IceDogs on their license agreement at the Meridian Centre.

In a release the city says the agreement now provides a stronger framework for all parties for the continued success of the Ice Dogs and the Meridian Centre.

A bit of controversy erupted between the two sides when Ice Dog owners Bill and Denise Burke walked away from a pledge to donate $1 million dollars for the naming of IceDogs Way.

At issue was the length of the term of  the naming rights.

Senior staff, along with the Burkes and a third party firm have held lengthy discussions to reach the new framework agreement that will allow the Ice Dogs to remain an important part of the community.
